Japan Kobudo Promotion Society
The Japan Kobudo Promotion Society is dedicated to preserving and promoting Kobudo—Japan’s traditional martial arts—as a valuable cultural heritage to be passed on to future generations.
A Legacy of Many Schools and Disciplines
Our organisation represents 89 distinct schools (ryuha), each with its own history, techniques, and philosophy.
Disciplines include: Jujutsu (grappling techniques), Kenjutsu (swordsmanship), Iaijutsu and Battojutsu (sword-drawing arts), Kyujutsu (archery), Sojutsu (spear techniques), Jojutsu and Bojutsu (short- and long-staff techniques), Naginatajutsu (glaive techniques), Karate and Ryukyu Kobudo, Taijutsu (body techniques), and Hojutsu (gunnery).
The richness and depth of these traditions reflect the enduring beauty of Kobudo.
Our Mission
Since our founding in 1935, the Japan Kobudo Promotion Society has brought together around 1,000 practitioners from across Japan, who continue to train with dedication and reverence.
The teachings of each founding master are faithfully passed down through every movement—demonstrated in dedicatory performances (Hono Enbu) held at sacred sites such as Meiji Shrine and Atsuta Shrine.
Kobudo is best understood not only through words, but through direct experience.
We hope our activities allow you to feel the true value and essence of these timeless martial traditions.
